FISITA Intelligent Safety Conference China (ISCC 2024) Successfully Held

The FISITA Intelligent Safety Conference China 2024 (ISCC 2024), organized by FISITA and China SAE, was successfully held on September 20, 2024, in Shanghai. This prestigious event brings together over 50 cutting-edge reports, with half of the speakers being international experts. The conference focuses on finding solutions for the safety challenges of autonomous driving, offering a platform for global experts, scholars, and industry leaders to engage in-depth discussions on advanced safety technologies.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was moderated by Lily Lu, Deputy Secretary General of China SAE. Keynote addresses were delivered by Fushen Hou, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of China SAE, Chris Mason, CEO of FISITA, and Xiaohong Pan, General Manager of Shanghai International Automobile City.

In his speech, Fushen Hou highlighted three significant trends: China's rapid advancements in autonomous driving, the accelerated adoption of AI technologies, and the growing integration of vehicle-road-cloud systems. He emphasized that while safety challenges, including operational and cybersecurity issues, are emerging, they are also driving technological innovation.

Chris Mason reiterated the importance of automotive safety, discussing the General Safety Regulation (GSR) of the EU, which mandates the inclusion of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in all new vehicles. He also highlighted FISITA's role in promoting autonomous driving safety and collaboration with partners worldwide.

Xiaohong Pan reflected on the progress made by Shanghai International Automobile City in advancing automotive safety and innovation over the past 20 years. She encouraged further collaboration to overcome new safety challenges in the era of intelligent and connected vehicles.

Keynote Speeches

Jun Li, Honorary President of China SAE and Professor at Tsinghua University, provided an in-depth analysis of operational safety for autonomous driving systems, discussing global standards and technologies, and emphasizing the need for dynamic risk management.

Abbas Jamalipour, Professor at the University of Sydney, introduced the potential of 6G technologies in future transportation systems, focusing on seamless, intelligent transportation networks.

Hiroaki Okuchi, Fellow of Toyota Motor Corporation, shared Toyota’s advancements in safety technologies, highlighting the company's ongoing efforts towards "zero traffic fatalities" through systems like Toyota Safety Sense (TSS).

Sijie Zu, Vice President of SAIC Motor, stressed the importance of safety in the development of intelligent vehicles, focusing on lifecycle safety assurance and the integration of vehicle intelligence and safety systems.

Jost Bernasch, CEO of Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH, presented the latest research on enhancing the certification of autonomous vehicles through virtual evaluations.

Zhenhai Gao, Dean of the College of Automotive Engineering at Jilin University, discussed human-vehicle interaction safety, emphasizing the need for trust between humans and intelligent vehicles.
Panel Discussion
Moderated by Frank Zhao, Honorable Lifetime President of FISITA, the panel discussion delved into the future of autonomous driving, covering emerging trends and safety challenges. Panelists included experts from General Motors, NIO, and global universities, all contributing insights into the future trajectory of autonomous driving technologies.

Conference Overview


ISCC 2024 is co-organized by National Key Laboratory of Advanced Vehicle Integration and Control; Automotive Innovation, National Key Laboratory of Automotive Chassis Integration and Bionics; College of Automotive Studies, Tongji University. With support from key partners like Anting International Automobile City and FAW, the event aims to foster deeper international collaboration on safety innovations in intelligent and connected vehicles. The two-day conference features technical sessions, discussions on SOTIF, AI-enabled safe autonomous driving, cybersecurity, and safety testing, making it a central platform for addressing the critical safety challenges in future mobility.
